Acipimox



Acipimox is a derivative of niacin that are useful as hypolipidemic agents. Acipimox used in low doses. These drugs inhibit the manufacture and secretion of VLDL triglycerides heart.

Indications:

To reduce the LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins) and raise HDL (high-density lipoprotein).

Dose:

250 mg by mouth (orally), 2-3 times the maximum daily dose : 1250 mg / day

Side effects:

redness, itching, rash, GI effects (heartburn, epigastric pain, drunkenness, etc.), headaches.

Special Instructions:

Not recommended in patients with peptic ulcer . Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
