Valsartan group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Valsartan keepblood vessels from narrowing, which reduces blood pressure and improve blood flow.Valsartan sometimes given in conjunction with other blood pressure medications.
Indications:
To treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Dosage:
The initial dose: 40 mg by mouth (orally), 2 times daily
Establish levels of up to 80-160 mg by mouth (orally), 2 times daily using the highestdose received by patients.
Maximum Dose: 320 mg / day
Side Effects:
Usually settled and mild: CNS effects (dizziness); Securities Cv (orthostatic hypotensionassociated with dose, which may occur particularly in patients who lack the volume);kidney damage.
Other effects are somewhat rare: rash, angioedema, raised LFTs (liver function tests);myalgia.
Special Instructions:
Patients who lack the volume (eg high-dose diuretic therapy) may experiencehypotension and should start with low doses.
Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, kidney damage or liver damage.
Check your blood pressure (BP), renal function and electrolytes 1-2 weeks after the addition of each dose, at 3 months and then do every 6 months. (It takes more control in patients with previous or recently experienced kidney dysfunction)
