Esmolol is a closing agent beta 1-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic receptor.Esmolol reduces the pressure and the number of heart contractions by closing thebeta-adrenergic receptors in the sympathetic nervous system, which is found in heartand other organs in the body.
Indications:
Used for rapid control of heart rate (ventricular rate).
Dosage:
Giving a dose of 500 mcg / kg for 1 minute.
Followed by 50 mcg / kg / min for 4 minutes.
Total dose: 200 mcg / kg
May give second dose 0.5 mcg / kg IV for 1 minute.
Advanced Dosage: 100 mcg / kg / min
Magnitude maximum infusion: 300 mcg / kg / min
Side Effects:
CNS effects (fatigue, depression, dizziness, confusion, sleep disturbances); CVeffects (heart failure, hypothermia, impotence); Securities row (bronchospasm inpatients who are susceptible and drug content of beta1 should be used cautiously inthese patients ); Securities GI (N / V, diarrhea, constipation); metabolic effects (canproduce hyper-or hypoglycemia, changes in serum cholesterol and triglycerides.
Special Instructions:
Berkontra-indications in patients with acute bradycardia, which has a high degree AVblock, sinus syndrome, which is not stable LV failure.
Use with caution in patients with bronchopasma, asthma or other respiratoryillnesses. Use with caution in patients with depression, patients with peripheralvascular disease (PVD) and patients taking insulin.
Beta-blockers may cover up the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypoglycemia, andmay aggravate psoriosis.
Patients in long-term treatment should not stop the use of all of a sudden, had to stopgradually over 1-2 weeks.
