Adenosine



Adenosine is an anti-arrhythmic drugs that work by slowing the electricalconduction in the heart, slowing heart rate, and normalize heart rhythm.

Indications:

To treat supraventricular tachycardia, heart rhythm disturbances.

Dosage:

6 mg IV bolus given speed for 1-2 seconds

If it is not effective in 1-2 minutes, may give second dose: 12 mg IV bolus

Side Effects:

CV effects (reddish); CNS effects (headache, lightheadedness); Effects in a row (dyspnea, chest discomfort); Other effects (discomfort in the head, neck and jaw).

Special Instructions:

Berkontra-indications in patients with severe heart blockage and sinus syndrome, atrial flutter, the A-Fib & VT.

Stay away from patients with liver disease bronchoconstrictive.

Patients with high levels of Theophylline, Theobromine Caffeine or in significant blood may require higher doses.
