Epoprostenol

:

Epoprostenol is a prostaglandin drug group. This drug works by widening blood vessels and increasing blood to the lungs, thereby reducing the workload of the heart.

Indications:

To treat high blood pressure in blood vessels associated with the lungs.

Dosage:

Hard to determine the range of doses that can be tolerated dose: 2 ng / kg / minute to continue through the blood vessels (intra venous).

Increase with increase of 2 ng / kg / min every 15 minutes or longer until the effect of the dose limit is reached.

Initial infusion continued ongoing: 4 ng / kg / min less than the maximum tolerated infusion set during the high dose included.

If the maximum tolerated infusion of less than 5 ng / kg / min, continuous infusion value should be around half of the value of the maximum tolerated infusion.

Side Effects:

Dose limiting effects: chest pain, anxiety, dizziness, changes in heart rate, dyspnea, N / V, headache, hypotension, skin redness.

Other effects: muscle aches, sore jaw.

Special Instructions:

Avoid in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction and in those who develop pulmonary edema during dose delivery.

Haematological monitoring is required and CV.
