Moxonidine is an antihypertensive drug used for treatment of mild to moderatehypertension. Monoxidine may have a role when thiazides, beta-blockers, ACEinhibitors and calcium channel blockers are not appropriate or fail in controlling bloodpressure. In addition, this drug shows good effect in the parameters of insulinresistance syndrome, appears to be free from blood pressure reduction.
Indications:
To treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Dosage:
Initial dose: 0.2 mg by mouth (orally), 1 times daily
May increase dose after 3 weeks to 0.4 mg / day through the mouth (oral) 1 timesdaily or divided doses.
Maximum dose: 0.6 mg / day divided dose
Side Effects:
CNS effects (state of drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, depression, anxiety, fatigue, sleep disturbances, impotence), GI effects (constipation, drunkenness, anorexia);Securities GU (difficulty urinating, incontinece); Effects of CV (orthostatic hypotension, liquid storage.)
Other effects are not common: bradycardia, ECG disturbances, heart failure,hallucinations, and others.
Special Instructions:
Avoid apda patients with conduction disturbances, acute arrhythmias, bradycardia,acute heart failure, acute isemik heart disease, kidney or liver damage is severe,intermittent claudication or Raynaud’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy,glaucoma, or depression and patients who have a history of angioedema.
Patients in long-term treatment should not be stopped abruptly.
